Huh?

So I was reading this article: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9995564/

which describes how the state of Alabama is keeping in its supplemental science readers a disclaimer that evolution is a "controversial theory" (true) and that any statement about the origin of life is "not fact". And the man quoted from the panel that was supposed to revise the science curriculum is the director of...

...wait for it...

the Alabama Surface Mining Commission.

WHAT???

First of all, why would you be proud to be on the Alabama Surface Mining Commission? and second of all, why is this man involved in revamping science curricula?? I'm at a loss as to what the theory of evolution has to do with surface mining. Except for maybe that sometimes they dig up, smash up, and then grind up old fossils?

I just don't get it..

but on the plus side, I managed to register for 9 whole credits this morning. I can't get into my last class because it's FOR 694 and somehow NOT A SINGLE PERSON (including my advisor, the registrar, and the DIRECTOR OF THE HONORS PROGRAM) EVER mentioned to me that I had to petition to get into a 600-level class. Thanks guys. Not that it really amtters, because I talked to the Undergraduate Department Chair and he said he'd push the petition through for me, but you'd think that somebody, somewhere along the line, would have mentioned it to me, rather than the registrar telling me when I went to ask why I couldn't get into my class. Rarrrr.

Three more classes and then my "relaxing weekend" begins. Who's excited for our chainsaw party on Saturday?
